"CROSSING" is an installation and performance project that I developed with 9 - 10 year-old students in Paris. The class was divided into groups and each group defined its own territory by imagining and creating a defense or separation system with recyclable materials. In a second step, I copied the shape of their sculpture into inflatable objects. The children made a performance with these inflatable sculptures which were constantly appearing and disappearing. When one of these inflatable sculptures appeared, some children would go inside their borders, and the others would wander outside. When one of these inflatable sculptures disappeared, some children would cross the borders while the others would stay within, creating a permanent coming and going. We created the border, we erased it, and then we released it. The installation and the performance of the project "CROSSING"are metaphors for speaking about connections with multiple dimensions: social, emotional, spatial, desired connection.
