This painting belongs to the first series of artworks created using rust. In 2017 I was looking for an element that could be an expression of the passage of time and change. In some way, perhaps I was looking for something that also represented the transience of things. Here I decided to start using rust. Through it, the time that passes as on our skin finds consistency.
"What remains" is a strongly introspective picture. We all suffer losses. Some of them can be painful, unavoidable and leave a void inside us. Time can help us process the loss and make sense of it, but it will always leave an indelible mark on us.
