The creation of "Lingering Sound" originated from
the scene of Cantonese opera performances in Guangzhou tea houses in the 1980s
when I followed my grandfather through the side streets and narrow alleys to
drink morning tea in a tea house. When I was a child, I didn’t know how to
appreciate the charm. I only remember that gongs, drums, Yangqin, Guzheng and
other musical instruments were played at the same time. The overwhelming sound
of the folk music ensemble appeared like a mountain. I just felt that it was
very lively. For a moment, it seemed to have the illusion of a big festival. Later I tried to draw the scene of my
memory, and the folk music ensemble about the Blue Man appeared. It
seemed that at a certain moment, I forgot what time it was, and there were only
the endless singing and dancing and the lingering sound among the old walls of
the palace.
