After a very serious sports injury, I turned into some kind of pixelated image. I was like a video stream that breaks up suddenly when the connection is lost... the information comes in only partially and the images dissolve into each other.
For a suspended time, I lived from the inside, my body stretched flat, repairing all of the vital connections that keep us upright with the proper use of our four, perfectly coordinated limbs. I observed my cells, my tissues, my blood flow, both from the inside and outside, from above or below, everywhere at once. Incredibly aware of the vital force that animates us, I felt the fragile connections being rebuilt and I inhabited my body differently. Halfway between hyper-consciousness and dream, seemingly immobile, layer after layer, gestures and colours came together. Once my body was sufficiently repaired, gestures and colours reconstructed me in a vertical harmony.
These bodily journeys, my vital fluids, my inner constellations, were then translated to the canvas. These stripes paintings show the path of my resurrection, every movement a victory, every gradation a hymn to life, its accomplishment almost a miracle!
There is no such thing as an ordinary moment.
