The
Last Supper
A
minimalist, symbolic reinterpretation of The Last Supper where the
twelve apostles are represented by fish. Jesus is the predestined
sacrifice and – at once – the Saviour, whose flesh is consumed.
The sequence of embossed golden dots refers to an allegedly embedded
musical code in Da Vinci’s masterpiece. (M.
De Giorgi)
The
last supper: the night when Jesus was betrayed. But the last supper
also reminds us that we likely would have betrayed him too. We are in
good company: Peter betrayed him too. The Last supper is a call to a
hermeneutics of the self
– to remember all the times we have been mimetically violent to our
neighbours. But there is also hope in the last supper – hope that
is expressed here, through the symbol used by early Christians: the
fish, ichtus (as
an acronym for Iesous Christos Theous Uios Soter). We use the Cross
as symbol; but we find atonement through the Cross not because a
jealous God needs the blood of his son to avenge his honour; rather,
because Jesus reveals the truth of forgiveness. It is through this
divine forgiveness that Christ is “soter”, saviour. (D.
Bubbio)
