The image for Two Ovals In Rain was taken during a day photographing a stream in Dalkeith Country park on the outskirts of Edinburgh. From this initial image emerged a painting, which is an abstracted form of reflection and water seen through rain. The white stone of an elegant bridge are hinted at through colour in the top of the work. Like many of my paintings focusing on estates and parks the idea of place is important. In particular the wealth that gave rise to such places and its transient nature. Although not obvious in the final paintings, perhaps, I find it adds to their atmosphere and my reasons for painting them.
