The Sleeping Girl

Continuing my mini-series of mixed media pieces, I created The Sleeping Girl, showcasing a girl resting on her pillow wrapped in a patterned blanket. I wanted to continue my theme of expressing the feeling of girlhood using a complex color story and patterning. The girl's skin shows a glowing mixture of radiant magenta and stagnant periwinkle, among other colors. I am fascinated by dreaming and the places your mind can take you while in such a vulnerable state, which is shown in this color story. On the blanket, I painted water lilies that represent innocence and rebirth, which is something I associate with sleeping since we are renewed in the morning and rejuvenated after a necessary rest.
