The source imagery for this work is a screenshot from a youtube video of an exhibition of Bryce Marden. The painting depicts a Bryce Marden master work seen through the glass storefront of a gallery (in which the landscape of the street is reflected) recorded through a cellphone, compressed into a YouTube video, streamed and painted back into oil paint. This painting describes the distancing occurring in the digital age as well as the layering of contexts surrounding the viewing of art. Bryce Marden's work is chosen as the subject because the qualities in his work are impossible to appreciate through an image and because of his investigations into zen which discuss the blurring of subjects and their environments.
