With this artwork I've tried to represent the
metaphor of the enlightenment, that spark that inspires the artist to find the
idea that permeates his whole creation. The ripples and corrugations symbolize
the outside, the material dimension. Suddenly a gash reveals the bronze painted
canvas beneath the ripples. This gash represents the idea that erupts from the chaos of the
artist's mind and that he tries to express while freeing his emotions in order
to create art. So being able to see the
essence beyond the canvas becomes a demiurgic and creative act. Thus, the
canvas is no longer just a support, but becomes the soul of the artist's
gesture to reach the idea. The mind uncovers the idea and the artist's hand
starts making sketches, and forms, to shape that chaotic formless lump of
matter into a clear and well-defined work of art.
