Ontological Mom manifests the sublimation of an object into a
transcendent dimension through graphic stylization. In this dimension, meanings
attached to the object are reduced to their core.
Ontological Mom represents my mother’s garments. Her death
triggered the need to explore grief through creativity, which is what motivated
my research.
What I propose is looking at her femininity through the clothes that
allow its social expression: a bathing suit, which exposes the body even of the
most reserved women; an undergarment, recalling a more sophisticated
sensuality; an apron – barely visible – reminiscent of the household dimension.
Past its guise, be it private or public, remains the naturality of being a woman:
the green oil pastel partially defining the bathing suit is a symbolic
representation of that.
