Sarid Soto is a Latin American artist living and working in New York.
Born and raised in The Dominican Republic. Sarid has been devoted to the arts ever since she can remember.
Growing up to a fine arts collector father, as a little girl she remembers how the walls of her house were filled with paintings. Paintings that would transport her to different places and stories. Ever since, she felt a connection and wanted to start creating stories of her own. At the age of nine she started taking painting classes and quickly won a contest. Graduating High School, she entered Chavon, La escuela de Diseno where she graduated from Fine Arts and Illustrations. Winning a scholarship she continued her studies at Parsons The New School For Design in New York City graduating with a BFA in Illustrations. She has taken drawing and painting courses in Parsons Paris and Santa Reparata in Florence. She has been working and painting in New York since 2012.
Sarid's work explores themes surrounding behaviors and emotions of the human being. With a focus on empowering the figure she mixes reality and fantasy elements with the attempt to portray magical stories behind her human-like characters. Her images are created by several layers of acrylic paint onto canvas. Inspired by organic forms found in nature, the belle epoque, art nouveau, beauty, love and personal experiences. Her portraits invite the viewer to a journey of discovery where they live in a search for authenticity and inspiration.
