This painting is highly influenced by the work of Salvador Dalí who is well known for the striking and bizarre images in his surrealist work. In this painting the artist is trying to portray the idea of self-growth and the key role it plays in our life. The use of substitution of head with other objects is to portray the attention we need to give our self in order to heal, love, forgive and grow. Art is a form of nourishment and the bouquet of flowers here represents the self-healing, time and growth an individual needs to provide themselves.
I’m not presumptuous enough to feel that people are going to feel what I have in mind, so I try to tell a story, let them read something, that doesn’t change, that as I have said it, so that’s the way I feel about the viewer, the viewer has a mind of their own and eyes of their own and they’re going to see it their way, I just hope they look. Art holds out the promise of inner wholeness,an exploration of the deepest and most authentic motives for making art, the “internal necessity” that impels artists to create as a spiritual impulse and audiences to admire art as a spiritual hunger.
