My artistic goal is to continue
to show and share my work in the world. Through COVID-19
pandemic has changed our lifestyles, and as an artist, I am realizing how to
read this changing phenomenon in human life. So, the reason I started working
the ‘Empty Gaze’ series was because I wanted to express something more valuable
in a different way against for those who want to achieve material things in
vain. During my four years as a caregiver in Seattle, I got a close look at the
lives of dementia seniors and Korean immigrants. Rich or poor, we live a
limited life and we know that one day everything will be nothing. Human life is
shorter than the universe. So I am curious about how I can hold a precious
thing even if it is not in a physical form, and I try to express it through my
work. Just as it shows the movement of energy centered on the emptiness, the
essence exists in emptiness. I want other people to feel that moment through my
work.
