[ SONIC MELT ]
Started when the pandemic hit Brazil, and completed over the span of two months, this painting is a direct reflection of the flux of uncertainty in our lives; there is a lot going on. We cannot take the span of this world in all at once, the landscape is charted as it goes. The collage materials used are sourced from various comic books and magazines around the world, including many from the very same Sonic the Hedgehog comics which I had growing up as a kid, and had loved repurposing, making them manifest into this very turbulent world. There are over 15 characters hidden inside, including a number of mushrooms, hidden all around the outer ring of this planet. Completed while listening to the Psyched Studio conference in June 2020, “Sonic Melt” won their artists’ prize offered during the 2020 conference.
