The piece, slime n nem, references the familial term of "slime" as a term of endearment, referencing a sense of camaraderie and familiarity. In addition to this reference, I also engage in a play on slime as the ambiguous backdrop for the figures. Both the middle and left-most figure are pictured holding up gang signs, while the right-most figure attempts to join in a childlike playful manner. While all of the figures featured are children, the are pictured doing something that is heavily associated with not only adulthood, but subgroups People of Color have created to create a sense of protection and belonging. I engage in a dichotomy between childhood, and adulthood, as an example for the myriad of ways the adultification of Black children is often presented to us as normal. Each of the babies presented are innocent, however in a sea of green they are unable to remove themselves from their environment, speaking to the vastness of the of their environment.
