“Evil
Suppresses the Awakening of the Sleeping Beauty.”
Take
a Good Look. Look for me.
Given a little information about
Artist W:
Artist W realizes that life is like
living in a circus full of performances of others, including self. Most often,
we are made believed that we MUST perform so there are audiences because after
all, we do not live in a “one-person world”. Yet, we do not realize that true identity
is lost during performance in this circus of life. What causes the lost
identity? Is it from performing or is it influence from the audience? Tricks,
hypocrisy, and deals are inviting audiences to stay in the circus fantasy that
is made believed as a reality of life.
This painting is full of tents
where circus takes place. As you could see at the left upper quadrant, the
center, and the left lower quadrant, those are tents with different colors. The
left upper quadrant and the left side is full of various performers with
different activities.
It is like life where we enter
different tents to perform or to watch or to attend live performance of a group
of artists with various skills, and tricks to entertain or be entertained.
At the center, there is a fiery,
yet mischievous face with a creepy smile (showing blue and red teeth). It is
like a passionate devil enjoying the chaotic scenes in the circus and plotting
evil that is being believed by audience as fantasy living. On the right upper
quadrant, there is a queen blinded by a bandage covering her eyes. At the left lower
quadrant, a person with two faces depicts hypocrisy of human being as a
performer or an audience.
The pink area at the right center
is the hair of the sleeping beauty. Her face is next to the giant red
lips. She is wearing a blue dress. To her right (the right side of the painting),
there are guards or knights wearing uniforms. An area of roulette and playing
cards is underneath her dress.
The sleeping beauty is
unconsciously standing on the game of roulette. In front of her (to the right),
there are guards or knights wearing uniforms dealing with playing cards. What
does it mean?
It means, most often, life happens
when we are unaware being placed on a little wheel, which is life, that spins
with all the odds against the unconscious self while games of playing cards are
simultaneously being dealt by the others.
In the cruel world, evil schemes
are often ongoing and hidden beneath wonderful performances and games. The
world and the rest of others are thrilled keeping the Beauty Asleep so
she can be easily manipulated and made believed the reality of others.
This piece of artwork “Sleeping
Beauty” suggests the sorrow of Artist W in the colorful schemes of the
world where her identity is being suppressed and her conscious awareness of the
reality is not being welcome. It also expresses lost identity happens when life
is being gambled away in the hand of others and of the world, without awareness
of true reality associated with self, but yet being deceived and manipulated by
the performance of others and false creation of fantasy in the circus.
