One canvas from a series of bark.
I see the birch bark texture as a map, a snow-covered typical russian landscape with dark silhouettes of bare trees. All these marks on the bark remind me of some writing. What messages are hidden in them?
The shape of the canvas looks like a map of Russia sewn from pieces and covered with crosses. The war once again reminded us of the proximity of death, and that all the lands around are covered with nameless graves. Someone sprouted by tree, someone — by grass.
And as wrote one of the most famous Russian poets, Sergei Yesenin, in his poem: "There are many trails in Russia. Whatever the path is a coffin, whatever a mile away is a cross..."
