This painting comes from a series of works based of the concept of food in cinema, the possibilities of food and the way food and sexual desire are intertwined. Often in film food acts a third party - the viewer, the actor, and the food item. I look at ways food is used in language and without language to portray or evoke an array of emotions. The oyster in particular was inspired by Tampopo (by Itami Juzo 1985). A film that connects characters through food, using exaggerated scenes in an unconventional way. The film describes food as, "no longer for survival but a form of access to fantasies, and nourishment to humans sexual needs."
