This drawing explores a conversation with one’s body. As children, society teaches us to control our bodies. From a certain age, we constantly fear looking strange, stupid, or ugly. Our bodies get used to acting within set norms and aren’t free, even when dancing alone. Our brains constantly dictate correct, beautiful, comfortable, and safe movements.
A major change in my self-relationship happened when I first felt my body move independently of my conscious intention. This experience taught me to respect my body’s deep needs and let it express itself authentically.
Since then, I’ve practiced free movement—a dance that doesn’t need to be meaningful or beautiful. It’s a dance free from judgment and evaluation, movement for its own sake. In this freedom, I find purity and truth. This truth connects me with myself, nature, the cosmos, and the energy of creation.
