This piece is special as
it was the artwork that began Rhapsody and Redolence: The Crystal Decade
my poetry book. My co-author posed for two paintings as part of the creative
process of writing and art. I decided that she would be faceless in both
paintings, rather her face would always be beyond view. We were co-writing
poems, she responding to my art, and I am responding to her thoughts and
insights. I couldn’t encapsulate who she is to me, the friendship and the love,
the joy and life of re-creation. Her face is more than image. This is why the
image of the nude is under glass so that the body keeps multiplying in
reflections. The anonymity of the nude magnified under crystal also signifies
the societal pressures regarding beauty.
