One of the running themes in the Object series is the idea of
physical recomposing of the body inside an imaginary shrine, evoked by
converging boards meeting in the middle of the surface.
Mom corresponds to the moment of the burial
ritual, which I processed through the representation of my mother’s garment in
an enclosed and protected symbolic space. The spray paint along the edges
traces a frame enriched by the use of gold. The boards, barely visible in other
works, take the form of actual paper strips sealing their content. The
undergarment, colored with pink crayon and acrylic, is now crossed by charcoal
marks: to me, this represents the awareness of uncertainty. Like paper, this
material is highly perishable and, at the same time, it is the result of the
physical process of body cremation.
