My painting shows the personal attempt to understand contemporaneity, with
all its contradictions and grief, but also its simplicity and beauty. It is
subjective and feminine attempt to turn to the human being, who often in my
works shows their human fragility, without any heroism. It is a reflection on
the beauty of flaws: the wounds, the patient mending, the marks of life.
Sometimes the strokes of the
brush are fast, the shapes are just delimited, other times there are drippings
and splashes of colours. These are liberating gestures, because only the
essence counts.
In this last series of oil paintings, I used
the mending, this patient work, done with a red cotton thread, as my mother
did, as my grandmother did: the patience of an ancient gesture, almost a
meditation, that can heal the wounds. This process is so similar to the strong
and healing power of art, one stroke of the brush after another, thinking fast,
changing colours, following shapes, the synthesis of an emotion, of a moment,
taking shelter in simple things, in the beauty of a flawed body: border and
union between us and the world, us and the others.
