The "Polyptych of worries" talks about false idols, which can create
anxiety and insecurity. It’s inspired by the Polyptychs by Carlo
Crivelli. It is is an oil on poplar wood with a gilded background, and
consists in 6 framed panels. The artwork offers an experience of
augmented reality through the Artivive application: each panel of the
painting will reveal its hidden symbologies. You can also experience the
augmented reality also in front of the monitor of your computer. Try
it! According to my needs, Artivive has programmed the application to
adapt to the language of the smartphones: currently it is available in
French, Italian and, for any other language, English.
The haloes are
engraved with the esoteric symbol of perfection, circle (feminine) and
dot (masculine), but also represents ancient divinities, as well as the
alchemical symbol of gold and sun. Each panel is a tarot card.
In the
Roman panel (The Magician) the character has skin spots, caused by
mercury poisoning. Symbols of salt, mercury and sulfur are tattooed on
the hand. The inscription "Fortune accompanies virtue" is found,
depicted with the caduceus of Mercury, in the Dampierre castle.
In
addition to the cup, the other three symbols of the minor arcana are
unveiled by the golden spiral: the coin, the tree and the brooch on the
hat, ending the path in the left eye, replica of the symbols on the
halo.
The Egyptian panel (The Death) is taken from 1929 "skeleton
dance". The esoteric symbol of death is not negative but means renewal.
The symbol of the Rosicrucians and of the rebirth, derives from the
Rider-Waite tarot. The black object in the hand is the tail of the black
cat used as a cello, but here it represents the mysterious Egyptians
cylinders.
The Etruscan Panel represents the "Wheel of fortune". The
wheel quotes the cyclicity of life according to a medieval iconography.
The character is Vertun, the Etruscan divinity of fortune. The hat shows
the Etruscan sphinx of Chiusi.
The mouse was completely painted and
then intentionally damaged with a chisel, to witness the state of the
artworks in the ancient churches of my country after the violent
earthquake of 2016. Unfortunately, the buildings had not been adapted to
seismic standards, so we lost some artworks forever.
In the Slavic
panel (The Devil), these characters represent a witches sabbath. It’s
from "Night on Bald Mountain ", where the demoniac crescendo stops
thanks to the sound of bells.
The formula « Solve and Coagula », was used by alchemists to evolve and regenerate themselves.
The
Greek panel (Temperance) tells about the asphyxiant crescendo of
sorcery that apparently no one can stop. This is Temperance, which
continually pours the vital fluid from one amphora to another,
regenerating life. The words on the buckets remind us that the segment
is inspired by a Goethe ballad, in turn inspired by an episode of the
Greek dialogue "False lovers". The sun hieroglyph symbolizes its
regenerating spirit.
The Sumerian panel (The Emperor) derives from
one of the "Silly simphonies" short movie, in which this king behaves
apparently in an illogical way. The heraldic eagle is that of the tarot
emperor, but here it represents the Sumerian divinity of storms, war and
fertility.
