Geometry throughout the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries remained in the discussion against empiricism as an impregnable fortress of the empiricists. Who maintained that it was possible, regardless of experience, to acquire certain knowledge of the real world through geometry. Only a mentally unbalanced would dare to have doubts about the objective validity of geometry.
