POLARIS AURORA I
‚Polaris Aurora I’ is the first of three works in the series ‘Polaris Aurora’. With its
pastel colors, it explores wastelands and frozen landscapes. Green metallic acrylics
flash here and there, mostly hidden, but then are reflected in nature’s allegedly mirrors.
Not only the slight green parts, but also the title are reminiscent of the more
Scandinavian areas of our northern hemisphere where we find the popular polar lights.
Even though, cold colors arouse the perception of snow, ice pools and foggy
mountains, the gold of the gilded middle section (gold leaf) carries warmness to the
whole painting focusing something really precious. Moving light is reflected in this
section and with the accompanying three-dimensional effects (aroused through
texture, silk paper and structural paste), the whole scenery is coming alive. The
minimalistic use of saturated color tends to result in deceleration in the observer’s eye,
calming him down by leading him or her into a state of rest.
