My mission statement is all about peace. Both my peace sign and the heart are both red, signifying how closely related these concepts are to one another. My painting shows with its toxic green and wild strikes of color; how chaotic our world can be. It is not hard to see how our world and our society is on the tipping point of global disaster, you only need to watch the news for that. My painting instead reflects how our problems and everyday struggles keeps the possibility of peace and love from ever taking root worldwide. In my painting, peace and love are separated from each other, yet they both are bleeding onto their respected canvas. This shows my statement on how peace and love need to be together for the world to ever be healthy. Peace established without love is just enslavement, while love without peace is merely lust. I painted a woman to best represent the idea of love, as the goddess is always presented as a female in countless mythologies and cultures. I used colors to show the woman’s warm body, that she would hold close in a loving embrace, if we only open our hearts to her. Her face is grey and almost alien-like, this I did to show how in our modern society, we no longer can tell what love is. Love is an almost foreign concept in the 21st century.
