In project Outsider, I explore the aesthetics and attributes of state violence against citizens.
It is based on newsfeed representing a modern civil protest. In these images, well-equipped subjects are confronted against a disparate mass of unarmed people. Paintings capture the contrast of this unequal confrontation: technogenicity versus flesh, abstract and figurative, spatial and flat, narrative versus incoherent.
Sketches for my works are assembled from digital artifacts. I produce digital manipulations with fragments of news, videos, and live broadcasts. I combine contradictory elements to deconstruct the original narrative. I connect a lot of objects to get a certain texture and variability of light and dark tones. These frozen images contain defects, somеtimes their resolution is low, so i has to figure out what is hidden there while creating painting.
In this series, I start a painting by creating an abstract background. I squeeze paint Like Richter. so there is an alternation of layers. Next I plan the characters. I questioned where the object will merge with the background, and where I will paint it over it. It's always a quest to make a painting, Despite the fact that I work with digital sources. The digital collage structure should be preserved, but I don't reproduce it straightforwardly.
