The work belongs to the OLD MEN cycle, in which the artist paints a series of purely imaginary old men. Sometimes the features do not even look human, but those of an extra-terrestrial plunged into a world he does not know or understand. Indeed, the faces appear bewildered, melancholy and depressed, showing signs of time past. But the decay is not only of the individual, but is general and not only physical, as it affects the entire Western society. The concept of these works is thus a metaphor for an empire in decay and the waning of its dreams.
