My works explores the tangible
and intangible dimensions of identity and the relationship with the expression
of color and fabrics in a painting. I have made a series of works that I have
collectively titled as ‘I am’. The continuing strong need to be
"someone" and thus "to be different" and at the same time
the fear of exclusion.
One of these works from this
serie ‘I am’ is 'My Memories' This work
particular appeals to the temporary nature of identity. We also derive who we
are from who we were: we identify with our memories and the feeling that this
evokes again.
In this children's dress, a
contrast between the thin areas and thicker areas is discernible, using the
underlying layers in the shadow area. The texture in the dress in the painting
has been expressed with a playful touch, but in such a way that the intended
fabric expression (embroidery) is immediately recognizable. These are all
elements that inspire me in Rembrandt's working method.
