Before I set off to paint this I was visualizing and feeling myself looking down from outer space.I saw the earth; its waters, an island and birds flying around. Like my other paintings on the subject of the Eye, I like to merge the eye with the scenery; our environment. The eyes reflect our conscience as it sees the world our everyday life.It sees every truth or untruth. So the question posed here is: Do we choose to see what we want to see or do we allow our eyes to see all that there is to be seen? In this piece I present my eyes seeing something with- out and with-in.
I have written a poem which can accompany the artwork during the exhibition if required:
What have we done to the world?
Cities built laden in silver and gold,
Nature reduced to concrete wastelands,
Mark of Man’s careless hands.
We should perhaps do more in reverse
And embrace the Law of Universe.
Soaring
like an eagle in the sky,
Releasing a mighty high-pitched cry,
Melded into the beauty above
I represent strength, loyalty and love.
But often I feel an infinite sorrow
Wonder what will become of tomorrow.
Am I
part of earth’s impending Fall?
Will I live with consideration for all?
When one subjects himself to greed
Love for the earth acts in opposite.
Perhaps I’ll wander till I’m done,
Till this body, mind and spirit become
One.
