In this painting I used the
mending, this patient work, done with a red cotton thread: the patience of an
ancient gesture, almost a meditation, that can heal the wounds. This process is
so similar to the strong and healing power of art, one stroke of the brush
after another, thinking fast, changing colours, following shapes, the synthesis
of an emotion, of a moment, taking shelter in simple things, in the beauty of a
flawed body: border and union between us and the world, us and the others. In
Italian the words “rammendare/mends” and “rammentare/remember” have the same
root. As the title’s quote said, ‘ma da queste profonde ferite, usciranno
farfalle libere’/it’s from the deepest wounds that free butterflies are born.
