Savia Salona is part of 'In the Tabernacle of Memory' painting series, all made on hessian with bitumen paint. These shapes are symbolic representation of my travels an memories within.
My works are time-based experience on a large scale as a generated record. Metaphorically, the underlying theme is the connection between my travels and memories, as mementos. It is also a trip into exploration of my inner nature. Everything is moving, everything is transient. Individual transformation, sometimes even a revolution of self-realisation.
Travel in any kind, is integral part of our lives. Integral part of discovery. Its a motion, but looking more the distance traveled, in a form of personal growth. For me, journeys are stories of travels of which we’ve done. They are definable to us, rather than insignificant daily routine travel. To build on that, I am looking to build on a significant travel as personal growth definitive movement in our individual lives. They act as a signifier to the movement I made through that chapter of time which is now a path inside of me.
The paint had to be smear with my hands, connected to the path and nothing could not be in between. The path was deliberate the sketch, the map I followed, but the way the soil and the bitumen were random, just as ones steps on a journey.
Each unique shape is a significant story to me. These shapes are forever present - even though the sequence is complete, the journey as a memory is always with me. Hence, there is the element of translucence. In a way the hessian is me, act as a view finders - little snippets of memories.
The series will continue expanding as my travels go on, following my path through life.
