"Ma-Mamalaika" means "My Angel" in Swahili and is the most famous love song in Kenyan music. It has been performed by many artists, including Harry Belafonte and Miriam Makeba. Miriam Makeba (Johannesburg, 4 March 1932 - Volturno Castle, 9 November 2008) was a South African singer and human and civil rights activist. Ma-Malaika" is an exception among my works, which mostly remind of mountain and hill landscapes. This jungle of colours and shapes, which evokes far away, exotic places and feelings, has always awakened in me the memory of this beautiful song... "Malaika, nakupenda Malaika, Malaika, nakupenda Malaika / Ningekuoa mali we, ningekuoa dada / Nashindwa na mali sina we, Ningekuoa Malaika..." "Angel, I love you, my angel, what I can do, my love, I have no money / I want to marry you, my angel, but I have no money..."
