This piece represents the earth’s ancient and pervasive geological forces that shape the landscape we interact with today. Paint was poured from the peaks of a randomly curved structure allowing gravity to define the geometric profile as it falls and pools at the low points (undulating hills and valleys). Paint-pourings are repeated numerous times - flowing across and through the succession of folded contours. Finally, when the canvas has dried sufficiently, it is flattened out and then further paint is added. This enriches the complex, sedimentary-like layers of the artwork.
Inspired by JMW Turner’w working processes, the yellow spot ’sun’ was the last mark made.
