I have been painting in official capacity for over ten years now. One reoccurring theme that has stuck is that of the faceless figure. In the beginning I would use silhouettes to render figures featureless, or not paint the face at all. Five years ago I began obscuring portraits with painterly gestures. The gestures seem to communicate intangible qualities when paired with the sitter. However strange or absurd it seemed at first, it stuck.
Much of this painting I have left unfinished. The faded face of the sitter is vaperous and elusive.
