The image combines the representation of the native Australian animal
the Leabeater's possum as a base relief built up on a canvas using a
cardboard and a paper both to build up the form and as a ready made
pallet of tones textures patterns and gradation to create the image and
cheeky character of the animal . Timid yet inquisitive it clings to
tenuously to a thing tree branch looking directly at the viewer, with
large dark eyes giving a expectant hopeful glance . Hope that she and
her home will be left alone as urbanization encroaches further and
further on there habitat remnant packaging from modern consumerism
creating the shape and colour and form of the possum glistening as the
nocturnal animal does caught under artificial light. It is at once a
plea to ward a more ecologically sustainable future and and a re -
appropriation of the design elements that are used as means to seduce
and entice us toward certain products in our consumer society to
consider the environmental damage it causes.
