Istanbul, like Rome is an eternal city. Highways built over Roman aqua-ducts, office buildings over Byzantine cisterns, Skyscrapers over ancient harbors. The ugly modern crowds out the sublime. Roman temples become Byzantine churches become mosques. New mosques over old slums. Suspension bridges link continents. My city is constantly changing yet the vestiges of the past linger.
