I do not view commercials or other form of advertising in the same way as the generations before me
With this statement by Peter Phillips, I would mark the beginning of my creations. I have also been living with film, TV and advertising all my life. Inner necessity, bold and individual virtualisation of my attitude to the world, giving an artistic notion to the existing, definition and shape to emotion and instinct and especially taking into account the audience, which is the witness and participant of the present occurrence, the receiver and co-creator of the pictorial phenomenon.
That is how I would briefly describe my efforts in the artistic field. The strongest artistic anticipation, happiness, begins with realisation.
I’ll explain how I work. I use magazines, photos, choosing certain models from, internet, newspapers, television, etc. I sketch and photograph a lot myself, thus obtaining a lot of materials. I do use the inspiration from another paintings of well know masters from the past as well. I create the first montage, which I draw on paper. Often I finish off creating it with items of my own collection, sometimes substituting one character for another. To the faces, I give expressions that I consider the most suitable. The finished painting is redone on canvas with oil paints. Even when painting the final copy, I often change the composition or individual figures, until the final form of the picture is done.
Thus I try to join the modern artistic process with the classic ones, creating paintings that view old and new themes in a new way. I am critic of life, as well as its admirer. I’m a convinced advocate of the unrepeatable miracle of our existence, in which serious problems meet and in twine themselves with the neglected, the humorous with the tragic. In my paintings I try to criticise the egoism of person, his dissimulations and luck of mutual respect, humbleness, acceptance and ability to forgive. The main characters of my canvases are similar to models in advertisement, anonymous, so that they would be acceptable to a large audience.
