Inspired by the work “parquet planers” by Gustave Caillebotte, my favorite painting
This painting takes a look at manual professions but also at the art of a job well done.
Formerly much criticized and considered trivial, I find that today: it restores the nobility of artistic crafts. Caillebotte is of bourgeois origin and did not want to denounce the conditions but was simply interested in the gesture.
However, this work perfectly highlights these manual professions without machines where the man was connected to his work sometimes in difficult conditions, with his back bent, knees on the ground with only rasps as tools in order to sand the floor and obtain a perfect result. At the time, there was no concept of hardship. We must draw inspiration from these examples to become more aware of our modern comforts.
