Kaukokaipuu is the nostalgia for a place you've never been to. It belongs to one's own emotional sphere and is an integral part of my painting.Sometimes you can't express certain moods, you don't find the right words to make yourself understood and above all to be able to understand yourself. Then we look for words. Unknown words. Words not yet encountered to understand who we are and who the other is from us. That's how I found Kaukokaipuu. Looking for it. It is a Finnish word that describes the strange nostalgia for a place where we have never been but that we feel inside of us. It is the emotion of an elsewhere. Of an alternative world to the present time that helps us to become what we already are intimately.
