“The arising
of defilements is nothing to be feared, but do beware of them at the first
moment they arise.” from Zen master
Jealousy is
generally considered as coming from comparison, which is a destructive emotion,
and most people are easily led to think that the arising of such a reaction is
inappropriate and should be restrained or suppressed. However, as a common
sentient being, such an emotional fluctuation is normal; there is no need to
avoid it.
“Turning five
poisons into five wisdom.”
In Buddhism
point of view, the opposite of jealousy is “accomplishing the wisdom of perfect
practice,” which is one of the five wise thoughts from the Five Dhyani Buddhas.
To an artist, it is a rich resource for creative inspiration. “Those who never
lose awareness, even being among thieves of defilements, will not be harmed.” -《Bequeathed Teachings Sutra》The more dangerous the state of consciousness is, the more fantasy potential
it contains; a clear perception and the capability to transform views are the
keys. It is also the very basic skill of abstract art.
