Inspired by my visit to Japan, I saw Mount Tateyama, one of Japan's 3 iconic mountains.Awed by its beauty, I had wanted to paint it when I got home. However I wanted to continue on with the subject of Eye, I had imagined it would look meaningful to put an eye in place of the usual expected sun on top of the mountains. This piece communicates a social responsibility message: We have to save our young ones from modern destruction. The colours and tone and manner is heavily influenced by Japan's famous artist Hokusai Ukiyo-e whose art I so deeply admire.
I have written a poem which can accompany the artwork during the exhibition if required:
Tateyama in her regal reticence,
One of Japan’s three iconic mountains.
Seated majestically for all to admire
Her compassion for the world’s quagmire
Where children are to be protected
Not abused and starved but educated.
Through Tateyama my spirit awakened
The need to defend the helpless innocent
Who cannot escape their predicament
From their social and financial
imprisonment.
Together let’s fulfill our responsibility
Protect the young, the future of
humanity.
