In trincea
In scenari così estremi, dormire è spesso
azione ardua e difficoltosa.
In
mascherine. E toglierle a fine turno è doloroso.
mai.
In the
trenches
The
trench is the place where you fight. The
trenches are long ditches just under two meters deep. They are dug following a
zigzag line: this allows the division into sectors, joined in turn by
connecting trenches.
The living conditions of the soldiers in the trenches
are, of course, very harsh. From dirt to the perpetual fire of the enemy,
passing through the cold of the mountains, the trenches soon become a sad and
shabby place of life.
In such extreme
scenarios, sleeping is often an arduous and difficult action. The rests are
very short and frequently interspersed with the noises of the battle. Bursts of
grenades, cannon shots and machine guns, make sleep almost impossible. It is
also not very restful: although fatigue is such as to induce sleep, rest is
always veiled by a continuous state of alert.
One of the great
problems of the life of soldiers in the trenches is undoubtedly that of bodily
needs. In fact, leaving to carry them out represents an unnecessary risk for
the soldiers, who are therefore forced to live in the middle of the dirt.
So in intensive
care, the last trench in the war against the coronavirus, the living conditions
of doctors, nurses and health workers are very harsh. In the ward they can not
undress. The suits are disposable and have few. They retain hunger, thirst and the
need to go to the toilet. Doing it during work would mean taking off your
protective equipment. Too risky and too expensive.
You have to resist
and wear a diaper, in the hope of not having to use it. They talk to each other
with their eyes, write names on the suits. Outside you can recognize them by
the scars on the nose. But they never leave patients alone between emergency and
another. Fatigue, hunger and thirst are felt little.
But breathing is
difficult, all day with masks. And removing them at the end of the shift is
painful. Many have a crust on the nose, the sign of battle. They try to instill
serenity, optimism, desire to fight. This is a disease that is defeated if you
do not give up. The desire to make it is essential to heal. And they try to
never lose her.
