“Il Folle Volo” is inspired by the interpretation of Dante Alighieri in the Divina Commedia. According to Alighieri, Ulysses endangered his and his sailor’s life for knowledge sakes, passing through the Pillars of Hercules, believed to be the end of the world. A storm hit Ulysses boat and lift it in the air, hence the title “Il Folle Volo” (eng. “The Mad Flight”). The best example of a rule-breaker and border-breaker historically is Ulysses, with his wit and relentless thirst of knowledge, of wanting and finding more. As he sailed for the unknown, he only had in mind what was beyond, and that is how I feel humans are living nowadays. In this particular historical moment we are living with borders, restrictions and the desire to break them, to live and be free, to merge with life at its purest form. I see myself and this generation as modern Ulysses, not knowing what we’re about to face but still going forward with determination, thirsty of experience and life.
