This artwork shares the same concept as my piece "The Smoke of Those Cigarettes." In this related work, I focus on a zoomed-in depiction of my father's face, who sits lobotomized in front of the television, wearing a traditional Sardinian folk mask. The scene is suffused with the dense smoke of countless cigarettes, a smell that instantly transports me back to childhood memories. The repetitive act of smoking, and the pervasive scent it creates, serves as a powerful symbol of enduring familial presence. Despite the unsettling imagery of my father's vacant gaze and the oppressive smoke, these elements evoke a deep, complex nostalgia. The smell of those thousand cigarettes, which I simultaneously detest and cherish, anchors me to my past and the continuity of family life, no matter how much the environment around us may change.
