Hanging laundry that represents family. And family is where we define home.
I was inspired one day when I looked out from the window of my parent's place. This painting depicts the feeling of most married women in the urban cities. After marriage, a woman usually leaves her home to a
new place to live with her spouse, and would often visit her parents (and
siblings) on weekends since she has to work during weekdays. In a way, she
is detached from home to set up a new one of her own.
Whenever I made visit to my parents’ place, I would look out of the
kitchen’s windows where I would enjoy watching the freshly washed clothes flipping with the
winds, and the smell of the detergent I dearly missed.
There is poignancy mixed with happiness. Even though my clothes are no
longer part of the laundry on the bamboo poles but I feel very
fortunate to have a complete family. This is where we call home - where
our loved ones are. For this painting, I added in a piece of my clothing
to portray the complete family. Each piece represented each of us.
