Where is the identity of the woman descended from
Okinawa when she perceives gestures and thoughts in the unconscious that do not
fit with the country she is in? But perhaps they are of customs passed from
mother to daughter for a long time that connects this line between ancestors of
the Okinawan people and the present in Brazil. Where does the discovery of its
beauty go when it is not identified in the place it lives, nor in the books it
reads?
What I find
in the history of my people lives through my mother. Thus, the first excavation
is about her. The first generation of our family to live this dichotomy of
being Brazilian but with a face, body and culture from Okinawa.
That is why this painting is made on
jeans with the bleaching technique, using bleach instead of paint so that this
drawing of Hajichi’s hands appears as fragments, as remnants, at the same time
that erases the blue color of the denim.
It was cut to pieces in an unconscious
gesture, then it was turned into demountable clothes.
