Appearances are so
intangible, so difficult to define, because as the Ancient Greek philosopher
Anaxagoras said: "Appearances are a glimpse of the unseen". Only our
imagination can understand it, with the help of our perceptions, our sensations
and our feelings. And all of them are not visible. So, the artist can create a
tangible artwork with tangible pigments and objects, while being guided by the
"glimpse of the unseen" which is the entire creative process needed
to reach that result. So, the creative idea already existed in the artist's
mind, even before the painting was made. I wanted to express this concept
through contrasting colours and shapes.
