We live in an era of overconsumption, parasocial relationships, and
hyperreality where the boundary between reality and the constructed world is
increasingly blurred as technology advances us forward. I aim to capture the
feeling of inertia, claustrophobia, and the desire to consume and be consumed
as a woman in a visual economy that seems to value the consumption of images of
young women above all else. The figure is uncomfortably close but out of reach of any real connection. With my paintings I explore how the time we live in is impacting
our perception of beauty, identity, and the authenticity of our
experiences.
