Fractal Shadow was painted half a year after Fractal Human. I kept on thinking I wanted a counterpart to Fractal Human. I was reading Man and His Symbols by Carl Jung and his disciples at the time and since Fractal Human always felt like a flamboyant ego, I wanted to draw the other side of the persona, the Shadow type. I do think of Fractal Human and Fractal Shadow as a pair. Their colors don’t match or answer each other in any way which is deliberate since I am looking to convey that part of a character that you are not necessarily proud of but that well and truly exists. The Fractal Shadow is also looking the other way, symbolizing in a way that you need the shadow for the full picture of the self.
